I started searching for what kind of poison could have been the one that Queen used to rid herself from her stupid stepdaughter. It cannot be true love’s kiss, so what made her wake up from her slumber?
Some while ago, I found a video from The Film Theorist, in which he explains what really saved Snow White, after having an amount of Deadly Nightshade poison.
If someone else has done the research and posted the results... What am I doing with this?! Well, I became suddenly curious about how the hell could I do some homemade poisons. My studies changed from what poison did the princess took, to what poisons could I make in my home, just like the evil character in the movie. Some of what I found are:
- Cyanide: This poison is named in The Film Theorist’s video. In a nutshell, cyanide prevents cells from using oxygen to make energy molecules. Cyanide is the active ingredient of Zyklon B, the gas used in the Nazi extermination camps. This toxin is so common in nature that the body detoxifies small amounts, like the cyanide found in almonds or apple seeds... But in large amounts is lethal. With just ten crushed apple seeds, you could get ten parts per million of hydrogen cyanide, surpassing the measure that is considered toxic by far. You could also make this poison with ammonia and natural gas.
- Ricin: It’s a deadly poison that comes from castor beans. A dose the size of a single grain of sand is enough to kill. Like mustard gas, Ricin attacks the body at a molecular level, by preventing the body from synthesising protein, which leads to the failure of all vital internal organs. Here, our friend Govind from Quora explains how to make a homemade Ricin poison.
- Brodifacoum: The venom contained in rat poison. It is a potent anticoagulant that reduces the level of vitamin K in the blood, leading to internal bleeding and death. While it kills rats because they eat the tainted bait, it doesn't do people or pets any favors either, since even touching it can cause exposure. It is not necessary to do this at home, you can just buy it at the store... Legal poison!
- Belladonna: Last, but not least, Belladonna (beautiful woman in italian), also known as Deadly Nightshade for a reason, contains foliage and berries are extremely toxic when ingested, containing tropane alkaloids, these chemicals acting by competitively blocking the binding of acetylcholine to the central nervous system and parasympathetic receptors, which cause delirium and hallucinations. A single leaf could be lethal to a human body. Well, there isn’t much on this topic... The ingestion of the plant itself is toxic...
